What is Kaal Sarp Dosha?
Kaal Sarp Dosha is said to form when all seven classical planets (Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus and Saturn) fall on one side of the Rahu–Ketu axis in a birth chart. Rahu and Ketu are the lunar nodes, always exactly opposite each other, so the planets appear "hemmed in" between them.
Texts and astrologers name different types depending on which house Rahu occupies, and they differ on how much weight the pattern deserves, so it is best read alongside the rest of the chart.
How this check works
Your chart is worked out from the exact positions of the planets at your birth, in the sidereal zodiac used in Indian astrology. Tirth casts your chart and tests whether all seven planets lie within the arc from Rahu to Ketu, then reports the result and its type.
Frequently asked questions
Which planets are counted in Kaal Sarp Dosha?
The seven classical planets: Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus and Saturn. Rahu and Ketu form the axis.
Are Rahu and Ketu always opposite each other?
Yes. They are the Moon's nodes and are always exactly 180° apart, which is what makes the axis a clean dividing line.
Does a chart with Kaal Sarp Dosha mean something is wrong?
Traditions differ, and many astrologers treat it as one factor among many. A qualified astrologer can read it in context.
