What is Varshaphal?

Varshaphal ("fruit of the year") is the Tajik system of annual charts. Each year a new chart is cast for the moment the Sun returns to the exact sidereal longitude it held at your birth, close to your birthday. That annual chart is read alongside your birth chart for the year ahead.

Three parts of it are read first. The Muntha is a point that moves one sign a year from your birth Lagna. The Panch Adhikari are the five office-holders of the year, among whom the year lord is chosen. And the Mudda Dasha is a short period system that divides the year among the planets.

How it works

Your chart is worked out from the exact positions of the planets at your birth, in the sidereal zodiac used in Indian astrology. We find the solar return for your current year at your birth place, cast the annual chart, and show the Muntha, the Panch Adhikari and the Mudda Dasha periods with dates.

Frequently asked questions

When does my Varshaphal year begin?

At the moment the Sun returns to its exact birth position, which falls on or within a day or so of your birthday each year.

What is the Muntha?

A point that starts at your birth Lagna and moves forward one sign each year. The house it falls in within the annual chart is read as a focus of the year.

What is Mudda Dasha?

A period system that divides the single year among the planets in the same proportions as Vimshottari, so each planet rules a few weeks to a few months.
