Sharad Purnima, also known as Kojagari Purnima in several traditions, is observed on the full moon of the Ashwin month. Hindu traditions associate this night particularly with Maa Lakshmi and Chandra Dev. It is traditionally believed that Maa Lakshmi blesses devotees who worship her with devotion on this sacred night. Chandra Dev is also worshipped because the full moon holds special ritual importance on Sharad Purnima. Families observe the occasion through prayer, fasting, Lakshmi worship, Chandra Arghya, mantra chanting and preparation of kheer. In many traditions, kheer is kept under moonlight before being offered and consumed as Prasad. Participating in the Samuhik Lakshmi–Chandra Puja provides devotees an opportunity to offer collective prayers for prosperity, family harmony, mental peace and spiritual growth.
