Vasant Panchami, also referred to as Saraswati Puja, is a great Hindu festival, which celebrates the onset of spring. The festival is observed on the fifth day of the bright half of the Hindu lunisolar calendar month of Magha or on the last day of January or February. This festival is dedicated to the goddess Saraswati who is the goddess of knowledge, music, arts and science. It is a regenerating and rebirth period, saying goodbye to cold winters. The inhabitants rejoice by venerating Goddess Saraswati, praying as well as attending different cultural activities including music and dance performances. It is also believed that the day is favourable in initiating new educational pursuits, career and other meaningful undertakings in life. The color that dominates in this festival is yellow, which represents the glory of spring and harvesting of crops.
