Tataiahgunta Gangamma Temple

Tirupati Gangamma Jatara is an annual folk festival and a worship of Goddess Gangamma who is the Gramadevata of Tirupati. The first week and the second week of May celebrate the festival which entails a number of rituals and processions, which are quite distinct. It is the remembrance of the heroic deed of the Goddess Gangamma who is supposed to have guarded the region against any harm. The celebrations involve the worshipers putting on various kinds of costumes, putting on varieties of pastes and colors on their body and taking part in processions daily to the temple. The festival culminates with the putting up of a clay idol of Gangamma and giving out the pieces of it supposedly having curative effects.
