Narmada Jayanti is a major Hindu festival which celebrates the birth of the holy Narmada River. The festival is observed on the Saptami (seventh day) of Magh month of the Hindu calendar of lunar phases. The followers come to the origin of the river in Amarkantak and other ghats along the river to worship goddess Narmada, have a purifying bath and engage in several rituals and ceremonies. The festival encompasses special pujas, aartis and distribution of Bhandara. The Narmada devi is believed to be a blessing to worship on such a day and it brings peace, prosperity and happiness.
