Ghats of the Ganga River, Varanasi
The Dev Deepawali or Deepawali of the Gods is a Hindu festival that is held chiefly at Varanasi. It is celebrated 15 days following Diwali, on a full moon night (Kartik Purnima) of the Hindu month of Kartik. The festival is a festival of victory of the lord Shiva over the demon Tripurasura and it is accompanied by lighting lamps (diyas) along the ghats of the river Ganga, prayers, rituals and processions. It is said that the deities come down to the Earth to rejoice, so it is an impressive spectacle of lights and worship.
