About Hidimba

Hidimba, also known as Hidimbi, is revered in the Kullu valley and throughout Himachal Pradesh as a powerful, kind, and protective mother goddess. Though her roots lie in the epic Mahabharata—where she starts as a Rakshasi (demoness)—her story embodies transformation, selfless devotion, and the ability to rise above one’s origins. Locally, she is regarded as a compassionate protectress who listens to the troubles of her devotees, blesses the land with fertility, and provides shelter in times of distress. Temples dedicated to Hidimba, especially the famous Hadimba Devi Temple in Manali, are at the heart of local life. Her worship is woven into the customs, rituals, and seasonal festivals of the region, making her a living symbol of strength, acceptance, and motherly love.
